Laura is the founder of a musical project that conjures the spirit of improvisation, known as SPOOOKY BOOOGIE. Featuring a rotating cast of diverse characters; poets, performers, and musicians from around the Bay Area. Laura and their husband, Ashley, facilitate each show with an ear towards the unmarketable resistance of noise music, the sweet lulling waves of ambient soundscapes, and the pulsating pull of danceable dirges. The Soundscaped Cocoon

Laura's Collaborative Partners

Since moving to San Francisco in 2010, Laura has been involved in a coalition of craftspeople who regularly influence and contribute to the DIY art and music scene. Among these comrades was AVER, a now defunct collective of Bay Area artists who release a yearly zine, set up workshops, and took on commissions in smaller groups.

A Grant from StoreFrontLab

In early 2016, Laura and her fellow AVER member Colin Wang teamed up with local woodworker and designer Joty Dhaliwal to write a grant for an installation at StoreFrontLab in San Francisco's Mission District. There they were given the space to construct "The Soundscaped Cocoon," as a part of their 2015-2016 season.

About the Soundscaped Cocoon Installation

An immense woven wire frame, suspended from the gallery ceiling and covered in shoji paper, the cocoon provided shelter for a month of public programming. For this participatory installation, Laura shot a dance film, hosted two days of live ambient music performances, and organized a series of sound healing sessions with board certified music therapist (MT-BC), sound healer, and energy worker Anneli Virkhaus, all within the confines of the cocoon.

Below are a sample of photos from Laura's ongoing double exposure collaborations with Allison Putnam, a Brooklyn-based surrealist photographer. Each artist shot a roll of 35mm film and passed it on to the other so a second round of exposures could be added, creating unforeseen results.
